Yes, yes, yes, to all of this! Kudos to Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop for taking a chance on pedestrian only roadways in the fastest growing city in the Northeast. If it can happen in JC, we can do it in AP.

Car free areas are great for pedestrians and cities where possible.
3 years ago our administration made the decision to close part of Newark Avenue and create a pedestrian plaza. While it hasn’t been perfect I think most would agree it has been a positive change for the area overall.
Since we first implemented the closing, we have spent the last few years changing and testing different scenarios to see what works best before committing more money towards permanent infrastructure. We are now looking and modeling out the next phase which would expand the pedestrian plaza to Jersey Ave (still allow the traffic on Erie), we have budgeted redoing the surface with pavers and removing the street so it feels more of a pedestrian plaza long term and add adding more permanent seating/tables.
